This is the only student planner program that combines expertise in planning and goal setting with post-secondary guidance and content from the CollegeEd® program. This planner is a road map for first-generation college students. Tested in thousands of classrooms, this planner program meets advisory requirements for career and academic planning.
CollegeEd® engages students in the academic and career-planning process, and it helps students explore career and college opportunities. The series begins in middle school so that students gain valuable knowledge – such as developing 21st Century skills such as, critical thinking, test and note taking strategies, time management and personal networking – to help them get into college and excel in a higher education atmosphere.
Through this planner program teachers and students gain access to MyRoad®–a comprehensive online resource that helps students explore college and career choices and track information vital to their career plans.
The CollegeEd® planner program was created through our exclusive partnership with CollegeBoard, whose mission is to connect students to college success and opportunity. The content throughout the planner is specifically written for each grade level—middle, freshman/sophomore, and junior/senior.
At the middle school level, students are encouraged to think about college early. They are provided help to develop a plan for how to get to college, including a solid navigation through high school that will optimize their opportunities. The planner helps students set and reach goals by prompting them with weekly tips and monthly lessons to keep them interested in planning and mapping out their future. CollegeEd® especially at the middle school level, seeks to involve parents and create open communication between teachers, parents and students.
Students are introduced to how college works, what it takes to get into college, the benefits of going to college, and how planning and setting goals is critical to going to college.
Students must first be confident in themselves in order to accomplish and excel in their goals. CollegeEd® dedicates necessary time to helping students discover their strengths and learn how to cultivate those talents, while continuing to work on the areas in their lives that are more challenging.
Students are provided tools and strategies for entering their next stage of education. The ability to adapt and transition into change is a valuable, lifelong skill.
To be able to truly consider going to college, students must think about the reasons why they would enter college. Students are introduced to and encouraged to explore numerous career paths, and then research and map which majors are associated with each career. Drawing upon their individual strengths and interests, students can narrow their research and exploration to what makes sense for them.
Once students have an idea—or even a few ideas—of which careers and majors might be a good choice, they can begin to choose a college that aligns with their chosen path. The CollegeEd® program helps students develop a plan for choosing a school or institution.
Many students are unwilling to think about college plans, because they believe it is too expensive and they won't be able to afford it. Most students are not aware of all the financial options available to them or the varying price of different institutions. CollegeEd® presents ideas and opportunities for paying for college that students may not have thought of or known about. It is important for students to recognize all their choices and know how to find further information.
